Florida Atlantic University’s Education Reimagined program transforms the culture of teaching and learning by embedding trained undergraduate Learning Assistants (LAs) in redesigned courses across campus. Guided by the evidence-based LA Model, faculty restructure their courses to incorporate active, collaborative learning experiences facilitated by these peer LAs, shifting responsibility for learning from instructor to student and creating a culture of peer-assisted engagement throughout the institution.

The program rests on three pillars: Practice, Preparation, and Pedagogy. Practice refers to the course redesign itself — incorporating small-group active learning strategies facilitated by trained peers. Preparation involves regular meetings between faculty and their LAs to discuss upcoming content, reflect on student challenges, and plan facilitation strategies, with LAs serving as student advocates who share the learner perspective. Pedagogy is a weekly seminar for first-semester LAs in which they study how students learn, reflect on their own emerging teaching strategies, and share experiences with fellow LAs. Together, these elements support FAU’s goal of making student-centered, peer-supported learning the institutional norm.
