What does care from professors look like to students?
This question serves as the foundation for the next iteration of the University of Florida Center for Teaching Excellence’s FLC in partnership with the LearningWell Coalition.
We invite you to apply for the Promoting Learner-Centered Education for Lifelong Flourishing Faculty Learning Community, a year-long, cross-institutional community of educators committed to advancing meaningful, relationship-rich teaching through Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
This Year’s Focus: Cultivating Care through Research-Based Practices
Building on the work of previous cohorts, this year’s FLC shifts from sharing effective practices to systematically studying their impact. Centered on the first Gallup Big Six Experience, “I had professors who cared about me as a person,” participants will engage in a shared inquiry into how students experience care while designing and studying their own classroom innovations.
Together, participants will:
- Contribute to a shared, cross-institutional study exploring what care from professors looks like to students
- Design and implement intentional teaching practices that demonstrate care
- Assess student perceptions and learning outcomes
- Develop conference-ready SoTL projects grounded in classroom practice
- Collaborate with colleagues who are committed to helping students thrive during and beyond college
As part of the experience, participants will collectively read and discuss selected readings that will inform the design of classroom-based interventions and research projects.
