The Signature Experience (SigX) at Gustavus Adolphus College is a graduation requirement that ensures all students participate in high-impact experiential learning –internship, student-faculty research, study away, or course practicum. Students’ “signature” emerges through their work in a companion curriculum where students explore their own values, agency, and purpose as they engage in, and reflect upon, the experience. SigX emphasizes this vocational reflection and justice-related values, aligning with the mission of the College. The initiative equips students to recognize and articulate how a college education that emphasizes belonging, agency, identity, and purpose can transform their ability to give back to their communities and workplaces. Early assessment data shows significant increases in student confidence and professional planning.
